Coach Osborne had amassed an impressive and nearly unparalleled record in his first 11 seasons, including what many considered the best team in the nation in 1982 and 1983, losing only two games in those two campaigns, including the famous go-for-two loss to Miami in the 1984 Orange Bowl. However there was a sense he hadn't quite achieved all that had been hoped. Other University's and a few pro teams had offered coach their head coaching positions - but coach Osborne had stayed loyal to his home state. Wanting to show the state's appreciation for his accomplishments, a scholarship was created in his name and an appreciation dinner was arranged in coaches home town of Hastings. Husker royalty including Bob Devaney and Turner Gill all came to pay respect and give reflections on coaches contributions to Husker football. A box of the 10 page programs from the event was recently discovered are made available here as a rare memento of Husker history.
